Shannon White is a 4-H State Science Youth Specialist at the University of Missouri Extension, has focused on outreach and research in GIS and geospatial education for over 14 years. Shannon has been working at the University of Missouri to promote geospatial technologies, geographic analysis and spatial thinking throughout the state since 2008. Her work in Missouri is with local, state, regional, national and international groups of researchers and geospatial technology users. At the Missouri 4-H Center for Youth Development she provides collaborative and strategic leadership of science, geospatial, camp and sport fishing programs throughout Missouri. In addition she is responsible for leadership to the adoption of a new enrollment system. She is the coordinator of the Missouri Geographic Alliance and has lead the effort toward a statewide K-12 GIS license for youth in Missouri.
Shannon earned her Ph.D. in Instructional Technology with a focus on GIS and her M.Ed. in Social Studies Education from North Carolina State University. She earned her undergraduate degrees from Radford University in Virginia. Her teaching experience in middle and high school classrooms, universities, and museums, such as Colonial Williamsburg, bring a unique perspective to her teaching and research. Her research interests are in the areas of geography education, GIS, geospatial technologies, instructional technology integration in K-20 education, and educational professional development.
